never stop…

As you’ve noticed I seldom blog these past few months, I have been so busy doing random things like reading books, learning new things (e.g. creating complicated websites), going out with friends, losing weight (much needed!)..

I miss this!

A Start of a New Week

Some people begin their week with Sundays while some with Mondays.

No matter what day we start the week, it is up to us on how we start it.

Having good vibes is a must. We must start fresh, let go of the unnecessary things that occur in the past. If we dwell too much in our past, it may become an hindrance in starting anew at the present.

Let us be inspired to be better bloggers.

Have a nice week ahead fellow bloggers! 🙂

Fifty Shades of Grey: My Opinion

Just yesterday, I saw this article in the Internet through Facebook entitled “A Letter to my children about Fifty Shades of Grey”. Since, I’m very much interested and hooked-up about the whole “Fifty Shades Thing”, I read it.

Here is the link of the article I mentioned above, Feel free to read it and comment your reactions below.

Everyone is allowed for their opinion regarding things, right? This is mine.

“Fifty Shades of Grey, both the book and the movie is not silly. Well, if you do find it silly, you just have said “NO” in the first place to your friends and did not succumbed to peer pressure. If it was silly, how come it became a worldwide phenomenon. I guess “silly” is the new trend now.”

“Surely, not in the distant but near future, “Fifty Shades of Grey” will be produced in DVDs, Blu-Ray Discs, and even be downloadable through torrents and the like. Technology has its own way to do such things. The point is due to fast-paced technology, teens or even kids can see and know certain things that seemed to be a mystery before. So, it is up to us to educate and guide them to the right path and not mislead them.”

Every person have different interpretations about “Fifty Shades of Grey”. I recognize it for what it truly implies and it doesn’t pretend.

Here are my points:

  1. It can be considered a love story, not just between the two main characters, Ana and Christian, but for the other characters, as well. I have to admit in the first part of the story, there is only attraction between them. But as the story goes on, Ana somehow develops feelings for Christian.
  2. A love story doesn’t need to show how big or small amount of love it has. In Fifty Shades of Grey, it is not that big but it was felt. Imagine the scenario when Ana called-up Christian while she was drunk, and José did take advantage of Ana. Christian suddenly showed up and defended Ana. There it is, a little act of love.
  3. Who said it was a fairytale? Ana is not Snow White, nor Christian is not Prince Charming. They are not living in a kingdom but in books. Maybe some people got caught-up of the idea that Ana is so lucky to get every material things Christian provides.
  4. About the naughtiness in the story, I think it’s quite normal. We now live in the 21st century, we have to be open-minded about those things, but be aware of its consequences and where it would lead us.
  5.  Let’s just face it that this fiction has a huge impact on us, whether positive or negative. It does knock our minds and make us aware of certain things.

Texts colored in blue are from the article I mentioned above and the red ones are my opinion.

“Romance is glaringly absent, in fact. As for harmless S&M, please understand that this screenplay’s message is the polar opposite of harmless. In this ‘harmless’ piece of fluff movie, a rich, handsome, experienced man uses his power to seduce and manipulate a young, innocent student into doing a lot of things she is extremely uncomfortable doing.”

Grey’s character has a strong personality being the “Dominant”. Often described as mysterious, rich, and handsome. While, Ana being the submissive, abides willingly, not forcibly encouraged by Christian even if she haven’t signed the contract yet.

“They are not equals. They are not partners. There is, in fact, no ‘they’ to speak of at all.”

Honestly, there is no commitment between them, they are just two consenting adults who wants to explore each other’s pleasures up to a certain limit.

“Rather, it’s a movie about a narcissistic man’s controlling and violent sexual desires and his sense of entitlement to use and abuse a vulnerable young woman’s body and mind as tools for his own gratification. It’s all about his needs, coupled with the arrogant expectation that she should comply, regardless of her discomfort, to please him.”

As I have said a while ago, it is Grey’s character, we can do nothing about it, there is no story if Grey is perfect. It’s not all about Grey after all, there are other characters we should also focus on. We should not hate him as if he is the antagonist. It’s Ana’s choice, whatever discomfort she might experience, she has still pleased him according to her own free will.

For whatever reason the story has been done, only E.L. James certainly know. And as a Catholic, I do believe that God has His own reasons for all of this.

We should learn many things in the story, maybe we are just like Anastasia Steele at the beginning of the story, but we should learn to be strong, fight for ourselves, and for what is right. And if destiny allows us to meet someone like Christian Grey, at least we know what to do. Let the story be a caution to us women and specially to young adults.

As for Christian Grey, if someone like you do exist in real life, you will never get us off-guard. We know you well enough and how to handle personalities like yours.

Parents should guide their children. Instead of putting the blame to Fifty Shades of Grey, they should be more aware of other things that might lead to more serious problems.

I do understand that it is hard to resist temptation when you entered a relationship. But come to think of it, free will comes with responsibility, and lack of responsibility means consequences. Love, trust and respect are the keys to a long-lasting relationship.

As a woman, I do sympathize on what the author has to say on the latter part of the article. I know someday, I will become a mother. And will be protective of my children. But I will never hinder them to happiness they deserve, instead I would join and guide them. However, I will never take the blame to something else because of some reasons that are not acceptable to many.

No offense to the author of the article. I’m just stating my opinion regarding the matter of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Honestly, I do see you as a good mother in the future. In fact, we do have the same first name.

Thank you for your article, if it wasn’t for it, I couldn’t write all of this.

Hope to meet you soon. 🙂
